A practice in decomposition. An opportunity for our cells to remember. A meditation on returning the elements we have borrowed.
Between originated as a rehearsal for being dead. Lying in a hole, under the roots of a fir tree, Laura endeavors to let go of her sense of self and dissolve into the forest floor. This piece moves at the speed of decay; incremental shifts accumulate as Laura moves down an embankment to the creek below. Laura’s dance is accompanied by Lynne Piper creating live vocal loops that also accumulate incrementally throughout the duration of the piece.
Between was first performed in Troutdale, OR at the Verdancy Project as part of the Terra Incógnita Land Art Exhibition, August, 2023.
