ProLab
Founded by Laura Cannon in 2019, ProLab Dance assembles dancers and performing artists from a variety of backgrounds to experiment with movement theories in and around Portland, OR. ProLab approaches dance-making with curiosity and openness in studios, rivers, city parks, ship yards, or any place that sparks interest. Cannon guides these explorations to become live performances and/or dancefilms. With Cannon at the heart of ProLab, dancers participate on a project basis.
Mission
ProLab Dance is a project-based company supporting the artistic visions of artistic director Laura Cannon. We are dedicated to bringing performers of varied backgrounds together to ask questions about how and why we make art. We are dedicated to staying curious and open in our work. We strive to make space for those who may not feel at home in a traditional dance company environment by being flexible and believing that there are many different kinds of knowledge and experience. We are collaborators. We are explorers. We seek to use dance as a way to articulate what language cannot. ProLab’s mission is to create dance-based performances that engage our audience on multiple levels. We hope to sew seeds of curiosity with our work that will grow into the wider world and provide nourishment for even more open-hearted, creative exploration.
